Five days of racing concluded Sunday May 5th with the Pacific Premier Bank Cycling Team notching their best results ever at the Tour of the Gila (UCI 2.2) in New Mexico. This world class event attracts teams from all around the world offering some of the toughest stages on US soil.
Pacific Premier’s Barry Miller (USA), finished 8th in the opening stage and 12th in the final day’s “Gila Monster” stage landing him 11th in the final General Classification.
Miller fought hard to make the final selection on stage 5, finishing with a select group that included former Tour de France rider Oscar Sevilla and eventual race winner James Piccoli. Piccoli, who rode for Pacific Premier Bank in 2017, had previously held the team’s top result at the Gila.
Other notable results included John Jantz (USA), who despite appearing in his first ever UCI event finished 32nd overall after an impressive ride on the final day’s stage. Omar Aguilera Garcia (MEX) rode brilliantly as the team’s number one domestic, sacrificing himself each day but still managing to finish the event in 77th place. Abner Gonzalez (PRI), also riding in his first Gila, finished 47th.
