Tour de Murrieta

Omnium serve as warm-up for the upcoming Redlands Classic.

Murrieta, CA

A weekend of hard racing resulted in a top 10 finish in the overall classification for James Hilyer in addition to strong finishes for Omar Aguilera and Ian Holt.

The skies were kind for Saturday’s 75 minute old-town Murrieta criterium making for dry roads and super fast racing around the 6-turn course. After a flurry of attacks in the opening 30 minutes the boys settled in eventually setting up James Hilyer for a strong finish followed closely by Ian Holt. Both riders scored valuable points in the omnium and heading into Sunday’s 13 lap 55 mile road race the team looked to capitalize.

As the race developed however, Omar Aguilera would make the breakaway group forcing James Hilyer to make a quick decision to jump across the gap. With two riders in the front group the rest of the team rode defensively helping to ensure the break’s success.

In the final kilometers Hilyer again surged ahead finishing just outside the top 10 on the day but advancing into 8th place overall by virtue of two consistent finishes in the event.

In the Category 2/3 race it was Kory Cook just missing the podium on Day 1, finishing 4th in the downtown criterium. Kory would again crack the top 10 Sunday with another strong showing sprinting in with the front group for 9th. As a reward for his efforts Kory earned 6th in the final GC for the weekend.

The team will next race the five-day Redlands Bicycle Classic beginning March 13th.
