The Pacific Premier Bank Cycling Team competed in a pair of Southern California criteriums this past weekend in a final warm-up for the 5-day Redlands Classic which begins Wednesday May 2.
Saturday’s race which was held in the historic Barrio Logan area of San Diego featured an exciting finish when Pacific Premier’s Enrique Aldapa nearly made it to the line in a group of only 6 riders. The breakaway which established itself in the latter part of the race held onto a uneasy 15 seconds for the final 10 laps of the race only to be caught with just half of a lap remaining.
On Sunday in Dana Point the team rode aggressively steering clear of most of the trouble until the final three laps of the 90 minute race when two of the boys in blue, Joey Bacala and Rex Roberts, hit the deck hard while trying to line up Aldapa for the finish. Still able to finish 10th in the massive field of top US sprinters Aldapa salvaged the day while his teammates Bacala and Roberts watched from the sidelines.
Heading into the 34th annual Redlands Bicycle Classic presented by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, the team is excited to be joined by guest rider Ama Nsk who be riding in his first RBC. When asked about his feelings about joining the Pacific Premier Bank team for the upcoming 5-day race Ama was all smiles, “Glad to be guest riding for such a cool team!”
