For the 2nd year in a row, the Pacific Premier Bank Cycling Team made their way to Alpine, CA tackling some of the most challenging terrain in East County San Diego during their annual 5-day camp. With the inclusion of several PRT (Pro Road Tour) events on the team’s 2018 schedule and some new blood donning the team colors, excitement and anticipation were at an all time high.
For Enrique Adalpa, it was like no other experience he’d had in his cycling career despite being one of the team’s more accomplished riders. “I’ve never done a camp like this,” Adalpa admitted upon his arrival on Wednesday. Adalpa, along with newcomers Raul Arias and Thomas Wavrin who were also added to the roster for the upcoming season, quickly meshed into their new environment.
After some final adjustments to their new carbon fibre JAVA Pro Falco 2 road machines on Wednesday, the boys hit the road for a quick 35 mile ride to Jamul to test things out and stretch the legs. Thursday and Friday, both 100+ mile days, included routes through Campo, Pine Valley, Julian and over the legendary Mt. Palomar. After a quick recovery ride which included team photos and a stop for some French toast on Saturday, the final day of camp was spent climbing to Mt. Laguna on Sunrise highway.
